font-family: arial;">Woodstock Honda Thor Racing’s, Daniel Reardon, has taken out the third round of the Monster Energy Super X in an epic supercross battle between him and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s, Chad Reed, at the packed indoor Burswood Dome tonight.

The estimated crowd of 9,000 fans created an amazing atmosphere as they enjoyed all the thrills and spills the tight and fast full sized supercross track produced.

Reardon took the holeshot and rode consistently quick laps over the 10 lap final to hold off an incredibly fast and determined Reed. The race came right down to the wire with Reardon beating Reed by just under 0.6 seconds over the finish line. Reardon now leads the Open championship by two points over Reed.

The Perth round saw the debut of an all new Open class final format, the Round Robin, which pitted riders against each other in three different five lap heat races in order to progress to a ten lap final for positions one to twelve. There were nine heat races in total meaning that every rider raced different competitors in each of their three heats.

In an afternoon packed with cut-throat racing, it was the Australian riders who have returned from the USA to race in the series that dominated in all of their heat races with Chad Reed, Rockstar Honda Maxxima’s, Michael Byrne and Dan Reardon, cruising through their respective heats with the fastest lap times, demonstrating their superior skill over the challenging track.

Byrne came undone in the tricky whoops section in the final and was unable to finish, which left the podium open for CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s, Jay Marmont, who led the championship after the first round in Launceston to take third, with his team mate, Cheyne Boyd, returning to good form to finish fourth.

Reardon who was lightning fast all night was ecstatic about his win. “I am so pumped about the win and it was a lot of fun racing tonight. It was a great track and a great venue and I felt really good on the bike.”

Runner up Reed also commented on how impressive the venue, track and atmosphere was. “I want to thank the fans for coming out today and I am glad there was some great racing for them to enjoy. It was an awesome track and venue and congratulations to Dan on a great race.”

The 250cc class riders were tested on the technical track leaving championship front runner, Shift Motul Suzuki’s Matt Moss, to once again dominate the field in the eight lap final who finished over six seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Lawson Bopping and the USA’s Kyle Cunningham who finished third. JDR Motorsport MX Rad rider Ryan Marmont who went in to the round in second place went down hard on the whoops but got back up to finish the race in 12th.

Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, Chad Reed, proved why he is riding with the number one plate today when he won three out of a possible four motos in the incredibly exciting Quad Challenge final, at the second round of the Monster Energy Super X Championship at the Skilled Stadium in Geelong.

Demonstrating his incredible speed and skill, Reed took the lead early and dominated for three of the four, five lap finals leaving other championship front runners to fight it out for second and third. A bad start in the second moto of the night left Reed to fight his way through the pack to clench second right at the finish line, behind Woodstock Honda Thor Racing’s Daniel Reardon.

Reardon was impressive in all four motos and got off to a great start and led early in nearly every race as well as claiming the holeshot in two. In the fourth and final race, Reardon was only one point behind Reed and a win would have given him first overall on a count back.

However the dual world supercross champion was too fast and determined and got off to an early lead for a dominant win.

“I have been sick all week so I am just really happy to be standing up here on the podium. The track made for great racing and Reed was just too strong,” said Reardon.

Young gun 17 year old Tye Simmonds proved why he is one to watch with a solid performance in all motos resulting in third overall for the Motorex KTM rider.

The expansive supercross track that covered the heralded AFL stadium has been dubbed by many in the in the industry as the best ever built in Australia and all riders were enjoying riding on it.

“It was a great track today and I was really motivated to race this week,” said Reed. “We had a lot of work to do last week for the first round in Launceston, but we worked our booty off even harder to get the bike right for this round and I have to say it felt awesome.”

“It was great to go racing today and I’m glad the fans got to enjoy it,” concluded Reed.

250cc class leader Matt Moss from the Shift Motul Suzuki team showed why he is going to be tough to beat this series with an extremely solid win in the 15 lap final. Moss took the holeshot and never looked back to finish way ahead of JDR Motorsport MX Rad’s Ryan Marmont, who claimed second with American rider Kyle Cunningham coming in third.
<p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; Based out of Huntington Beach, California since 2001, sullen started like many other brands, with the simple goal to make clothes that appealed to those we share interesests with. None of us wanted the daily 9-5 and figured what better way than to do it on our own, little did we know how difficult this journey would have been. Starting in a small two bedroom apartment in Downtown Huntington Beach, our clothes were originally sold on our couch. Friends would come by on the way to the water or just to kick it, and they would usually always end up leaving with a shirt. After many years of struggle and many more to come, sullen has grown from a small guppy company into what it is today. Our goal now is to put out clothes that you can tell time and effort were put into, we're not trying to revolutionize our industry nor are we tired of what's out there, in fact many brands are throwing out amazing art which just makes our job more challenging. With Hand Drawn artwork by art director and popular West Coast tattoo artist, Ryan Smith, sullen's focus on quality and attention to detail has been reflected in its success. We pride ourself with a hands on approach to the action sports and music scene. With our dedication to the riders and bands, sullen has created a family within its own. Our reputable account base exceeds over 200 retail stores which range from core skate to boutiques. Ironically, we have defined ourself by consciously not defining ourself. When asked we simply respond "that we want to appeal to all and identify with none". We only hope you like the stuff we are doing as well. Thanks to our friends, the new ones we've made along the way, and our families who still support us even after countless tattoos and questionable life decisions we have made along the way.

www.sullenclothing.com

Jay Marmont takes out first round of Monster Energy Super X

CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont has won the first round of the highly anticipated 2009 Monster Energy Super X championship, beating dual world supercross champion, Chad Reed, and Woodstock Honda Thor Racing’s, Dan Reardon, in front of an 8,000 strong crowd at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium tonight.

Debuting his new Monster Energy backed Kawasaki , Reed got off to a less than perfect start with a bungle in the first lap of his heat race forcing him to leave the track and make his way to the final via the Last Chance Qualifier.

It was Reardon who got off to a flying start and dominated the whole ten laps of the first two races in the new Double Header final format to finish first, showing the speed that gained him third place in the US Open of Supercross in Las Vegas last weekend.

Marmont rode a strong and steady race to hold off his team mate Cheyne Boyd to finish second, whilst Reed who was pushed to the back of the pack on the first turn rode his way into fifth.

The second ten lap final brought out the best supercross racing ever seen in Australia with surprise packet Cool Air Conditioning Kawasaki’s, Cody Mackie, leading the race right up until the final turn of the last lap before coming off the bike in a prang with a fast and determined Reed, who pipped Marmont right under the finish arch to finish first.

Reardon got off to another flying start, but a mistake when he was out in front pushed him back into fourth position. The two consistent races by Marmont saw him take out the round overall with Reardon second and Reed third.

“I just wanted to get out and there and race all day and I had a lot of fun out there tonight. There is no better way to start the series and this gives me a lot of confidence for the second round in Geelong next week,” said Marmont.

A disappointed Reed who was sore from his crash in the heat said "It was a rough night for me. I had to go to last chance and come from the back in both races. Someone hit me from behind at the start in the heat race and came down on top of my elbow which put me out of the heat.

"It was extremely painful during both races - every bump it hurt so I had to be a bit cautious. I tried to be careful and not do anything silly but on the last lap I saw an opportunity to challenge for the race lead and I had to take it. I ended up winning the last race, which was pretty cool.”

The 250cc final also produced some action packed racing with defending champion, Shift Motul Suzuki’s Matt Moss, engaging in some bar to bar battles with US rider Kyle Cunningham and JDR Motorsports Ryan Marmont. Moss eventually won both of the Double Header races to take first whist Marmont finished second and Cunningham third.

<p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; Stewart also won the championship in 2007 whilst Reed won in 2003 and 2008.

“I have a lot of respect for Chad (Reed) and our rivalry only makes us race better and is great for the sport. This year was the toughest I ever had to fight to win a championship, which made the victory even sweeter.

“When the opportunity came up to race in Super X in Australia I didn’t think twice. I have never been or raced there before and I am really looking forward to taking on Chad (Reed) in his country. It will be a great race and we will both be going for it,” said Stewart.

The Super X series finale in Brisbane will be the first time the rivals will race against each other since the final round of the AMA Championship in Las Vegas in May where Stewart reclaimed the world championship. It will also be the only time they will race before the 2010 AMA series so both riders will be chasing the confidence boost that would come from a win.

“It is a testament to the series that James (Stewart) will be competing in a race. He is riding at his best at the moment and had a great season in the USA. This will be my first chance to race against him in my bid to getting back the AMA Championship next year so we will both be giving it our all,” said Reed.

Tickets are on sale now. There’s plenty of flash, and for little cash you can be carving your way around the paddock or MX track. Don’t for a second think the 250XTR will match a 250cc MX four-stroke from the big Japanese and European manufacturers, but at around a third of the cost of said entrenched marques, the XTR isn’t two thirds behind.
Around six months ago I got to test a 125cc Motovert, which was very much in the style of the fast 50 set. It was surprisingly fast but was a handful when riding quickly because of the smaller wheels and shorter travel suspension. The bike was fun to ride but the engine overshadowed the rest of the bike.

When the 250XTR turned up at home it looked the business, there was more bling than you could take in during one viewing, and it was nearly the same height and dimensions as the YZ250F I usually ride. A look around the bike shows it has a liquid-cooled 250c four-stroke engine, electric start, upside down forks, disc brakes front and rear, and at the first stab of the button, a very fruity exhaust note.

It looked pretty familiar too, then I dragged out an old copy of Cycle Torque. The Motovert looked very similar to the Puzey 250cc dirt bike, and it even carries the same name, 250XTR. Not sure what’s happening there but it seems the bike is designed in South Africa and made in China. A little bit of badge engineering perhaps?
I’m not the tallest 15-year-old around but the seat height of the XTR suited me perfectly, it’s not the same size as a normal 250cc MXer but it’s very close. I could just get both feet on the ground, whereas on a YZ250F it’s one foot only.

Motovert’s XTR looks very trick, there’s billet and anodized alloy everywhere, but some of the bits look a bit cheap. It looks more like a freestyle bike than a MX race bike, and in black looks tough. It wouldn’t look out of place at a custom bike show.

Some of the parts seem to have been designed more for show than go, like the alloy levers which have a square edge which digs into your fingers slightly. Only a small criticism really. Off the trailer

The XTR fires up easily on the choke, and once warmed up idles nicely. I did wind the idle up slightly during warm up, otherwise the bike wanted to stall. Once warmed up I left the idle where it was. My first session was on a grass track with a few turns, slow and flat out. Brodie, my riding partner and mate, was on his 2006 Kawasaki KX125, so I thought it would be a great time to see how the XTR stacked up against a potent 125cc two-stroke. Well I can tell you it stacked up very well. Sure, the XTR didn’t have the top end of the 125 but it was very close, and proved a match for the little MX bike around the grass track circuit. We spent lap after lap roaring around the circuit with nothing between the two bikes.

I couldn’t find any quoted power figures for the XTR but it definitely isn’t in the ball park of a YZ250F or similar. It doesn’t have the acceleration, top speed or light weight of these hard core bikes, but it doesn’t have the frantic feel or price tag of these either.

After the grass track fun we decided to find some trails on the property and explored gullies, single trail tracks and some jumps. Brodie and I both liked the way the bike was planted in the rougher stuff, but as expected the suspension was a bit soft when we started to launch off the jumps. Flat out turns showed us the bike was very stable too, the handlebars stayed planted and the bike steered where you wanted it to.
Pulling the XTR up was easy work, both front and rear disc brakes gave plenty of feel, and the back brake didn’t lock up as soon as you touch it.

I liked the power because it wasn’t intimidating and was easy to explore its top end. For the average rider, or someone new to this class, the XTR is perfect to learn your craft without finding yourself flying over the handlebars because you were a bit free and easy with the throttle. It will go hard but not easily get out of control, and is a bike the whole family could have fun on. It’s not a wheelie hound, you could probably get it to launch into the air more easily with some gearing changes but as it was you needed to use plenty of clutch to get it reaching for the sky.
my verdict

I was really impressed by the Motovert 250XTR, it was heaps of fun on the throttle and in the turns, and looks flasher than a rap star. People often get the impression Chinese made bikes are ready for the scrap heap straight after the first ride, but we hammered the bike for hours and it never missed a beat, starting up every time on the button (it does have a kickstarter too). It’s not going to go head-to-head with the big name quarter litre rockets on performance, and I don’t know if it will last as long, but at only $????? it could very well be worth a gamble if racing isn’t your go.

Pics and wording Taken from Cycle torque Magazine

http://www.cycletorque.com.au/

<div style="text-align: center;

Round One will be held at Frankston BMX Track on Saturday March 14th with the series concluding at Shepparton BMX Track in Northern Victoria on Saturday March 28th.

Since 2006 Southside Promotions’ Adam Bailey, Mick Sinclair and Cam Sinclair have been running the Mini SX Open at Frankston BMX Track, South-East of Melbourne. The event attracts up to 200 of the best Mini bike racers in Australia to do battle for over $5000 in cash and prizes.

The event also features Freestyle Motocross (FMX) demos by the best Australia has to offer including Crusty Demon riders Cam Sinclair, Blake “Bilko” Williams and Kain Saul. For Blake Williams it will be his first appearance in Australia for over six months, since a knee reconstruction put him out of action. In 2009 however Blake did have some extremely strong performances on the international FMX scene, including first place at the Mountain Dew Action Sports Tour.

“I cant wait for the opportunity to ride in front of the local fans. I always enjoy being a part of the Mini SX events and this year going to Shepparton will be great.” Blake Williams said.

The combination of mini bike racing and FMX demonstrations has been a great success for Southside Promotions and always provides great entertainment and fun for the whole family.

“We are really excited to expand Mini SX racing in 2009. The event has always had great support from the riders and spectators and I’m sure 2009 will be even bigger and better than ever!” Adam Bailey from Southside Promotions said.

“Shepparton is the perfect venue for another Mini SX event. The track is really technical and the riders will love it. We also expect a huge spectator turnout there; the people of Shepparton love their motorsport!”

Classes for the series will include
Jnr 9-12 up to 110cc
Jnr 13-16 up to 110cc
Stock 50cc
Limited 50cc-90cc
110cc 12 inch
110 cc 14 inch
125cc 12 inch Amature
125cc 12 inch Pro
Open Amature
Open Pro

Tickets for the series will be sold at the gate. Using computer modeling and on-track testing, the engineers at BBR have found a way to improve the handling characteristics, enlarge the cockpit and reduce weight on this new frame. In addition, they have designed the V3 frame platform to accept both CRF 50 and KLX 110 motors. The bolt-on motor mounts are interchangeable allowing either motor to be used with this new frame.

            • New geometry with larger cockpit and improved handling
• Narrowed perimeter tubes for optimized rigidity
• Frame can use KLX 110 or CRF50 motor with change of motor mounts
• New carved "BBR" logo in side spars
• Complete with BBR’s new D2 Exhaust System
• Lighter overall weight

The V3 Perimeter Frame has already won championships at MiniMoto SX and MiniMX Summer Grand National in 2008.
